How To Show Confidence In The Workplace

Confidence is key to success. Confidence is essential in any job and industry. The most required skills that employers look for: having a can-do attitude, communicating effectively, and coordinating with others; these are all aspects of confidence. Employers are looking for people who can handle things with minimum supervision, which is why they look for confident people. I have learned a great deal about confidence in the workplace in the last few years that I will share with you in this post.

In general, you can show confidence by being more present and active with the people you work with. Having the knowledge and ability to do things correctly make you more confident and highly dependable. Essentially being confident is knowing how you can help others which make people look up to you.

To be confident is not about how you act; it is about how people think of you. If people respect your opinion and thoughts, then your confidence is projected on them.

It does not matter where you work or what sort of job you do; if you can not show confidence in what you do or how you talk to people, it is hard to succeed at anything. Think of yourself as a brand. If you can not sell your image well to others, it makes it hard to shine in the workplace. You are basically proving yourself to be able to do the things you set out to do.

Confidence starts from believing in yourself and your abilities to do what people want you to do. Therefore, it is essential to be honest with yourself and others, understand your abilities and ask for help when needed. Bening confidence is not about bickering or acting like you know it all. It is about communication, understanding others and being able to resolve conflicts and find solutions.

Life is not only about you; you can not be confident if your ego prevents you from being present with the people you work with. Therefore, you can not project your confidence to others if you are too busy thinking of yourself.

10 Ways To Be More Confident In The Workplace

1- Be Present

Confidence person is present in the workplace and knows what is happening and what type of problems the workplace faces. Being aware of your surrounding gives you a massive advantage because it gives you the ability to act swiftly and think quickly on your feet. Moreover, being present is also being available for your colleges and knowing what they are going through.

2- Ask questions

If you do not understand something, it’s better to ask questions than do something not knowing much about it. Being confident is not about acting as you know it all but being honest with yourself, so asking questions help you to do things better and do your job correctly.

3- Realise its not always about you

Being confident does not mean that you have to be ignorant about others. It is the opposite. Confident people are the ones who look after others and being present and available for help when needed. Confidence comes from developing strong relationships and trying your best to be resourceful to others.

4- Become an asset to others

Becoming an asset to others is being helpful to them when they need you. You will realise that when people come to you for help, it means that they put you in high regard and take your work carefully because you have high self-esteem. Therefore, to become an asset, you need to think in the other person’s shoes and find what sort of help they need. Establishing those relationships by being an asset will make them see you as a confident individual.

5- Spent time to learn

Confident people are the ones who learn by example and read. They push themselves to numerous uncomfortable situations that force them to think quickly on their feet. The more they get out of their comfort zone, the more they increase their confidence.

6- Practice until perfections

You might realise that doing something for the first time usually takes the most time and does not produce the most acceptable results. And that is okay. The goal is not to be perfect the first time you do something but to learn how to do it. Mastery level comes with times after practising something numerous times. Practice makes you confident as you know how to do something exceptionally well without mistakes. Bruce Lee has a very famous quote about practice:

I fear not the man who has practiced 10000 kicks once but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10000 times

Bruce Lee

7- Express your ideas freely

Become expressive of your opinions and suggestions. Confidence people are the ones who always express their views regardless of what others think. They know how to attract attention by using body language and being freely expressive and non-apologetic. You must value your opinions and stick to your word as it makes you more confident.

8- Be punctual

Become punctual in the way you say and do things. Avoid saying things that make you unconfident and uncertain, such as about, maybe and not sure, with I do not know, I will, Yes and No. Your answer should be directive and has less uncertainty. It is best to admit that you do not understand something or are unable to do something is way better than acting as you know because you will fail at it, which is not good for your brand. Therefore, if you find yourself at fault or unsure, admit it quickly.

Being punctual is also being on time. If you have an appointment with someone, arriving on time shows that you respect their time, which is good for your image. Why should people respect someone who is late, non-punctual and always uncertain?

9- Respect others opinions

Following an earlier point, it is not always about you, which means others have options and thoughts they want to express. Not paying attention and not listening is devaluing yourself by not being respectful of others. Why should others respect you if you do not respect them? Being confident is not always about your Carisma, and your personality is also about others.

In addition, respecting others opinions does not mean that you have to agree with them, but realising that those are their believes and thoughts, you do not have to agree with it, but you need to respect them. Being assertive is a powerful tool when you understand the other person opinion without trying to change or impose your throughs on them.

10 – Encourage others

Be an excellent example to others. Helping others and leading a hand project confidence and show your ability to make strong relationships by analysing the issue and offering help or solutions. If you encourage others, they will look up to you as their hero and see you as a confident person.
