Why Does Construction Start So Early?

Are you annoyed by the construction noise in your area that starts as early as 7 AM? You can not sleep enough and can not do anything because of the noise. So why does construction start so early, and why they are so loud?

Construction workers must start early to take advantage of the daylight and avoid the sun heat in the summer and low temperature in the winter. Construction works take place outside; therefore, workers have very low protection from the sun, rain and snow, so starting early is the only way to ensure things get done on time.

Like with any project, construction workers work on a program, and bad weather can get in the way of finishing the work. Construction workers often stop work in bad weather conditions, which delay the project, hence why construction works take too long and why workers should always start very early.

However, there is more to why construction starts early:

1- Workers need daylight: because the work takes place outside, the only light source becomes the sun, so starting early is taking advantage of that light. While working at night is also possible, it is usually avoided as much as possible because of the noise.

2- Avoid the heat: The sun shines horizontally in the morning, which is less concentrated compared to the afternoon, where the sun is perpendicular which is more concentrated, which makes workers vulnerable to heatwave and sunburns

3- Avoid bad weather: Rain, snow, and storms usually occur more in the afternoon than in the morning. Working in the morning reduces the chances of stopping work because of bad weather.

What is the earliest time construction start?

In most countries, there is no fixed time to when construction works can start. However, workers are usually not allowed to make noises before 7 AM. This means avoiding using heavy machinery and tools that can make large noises.

Why is construction so loud?

Construction is loud due to heavy machineries such as excavators, cranes, or power tools. Because works take place outside, there are minimum noise barriers making it impossible to reduce the construction noise.
